I have a white Aspire One with 1 GB RAM and 120 GB Hard Drive and I think it’s a great little machine. The Intel Atom processor and 1 GB RAM give just about enough power for me to run Windows Vista on this. I have installed my favorite software, music and videos and this little machine handles everything nicely even on Windows Vista. The only issue I could have with this netbook is a noticable fan noise. It’s not noticable to everyone though.

The only reason I don’t give the Acer Aspire One 5 stars across the board is to give Acer continued incentive to work on improvements.
I have owned three netbooks, the Asus eee pc 701 (linux), the eee pc 900 (16G XP model), and the One (XP, 120 Gig HD). The One is by far the best so far.
    Things I like:
    1) best keyboard I have used. I actually prefer it to the full sized keyboard on my Dell laptop.
    2) overall size and portablilty. The 8.9 in screen is, as far as I am concerned, the perfect compromise.
    3) speed and responsiveness. With standard XP install, it is 90% as fast as my brand new work laptop…and I only notice any difference at all when installing programs.
    4) runs the programs I need: I am a photographer and use the Aspire One for photo editing (Photoshop Elements and Lightroom, LightZone, etc). I run Office for occasional work related stuff. Google Chrome is really fast on the One.
    5) The built in 4 in one card reader. Use it all the time.
    6) the wifi. Though I had problems with it at first, with updated bios and drivers, it is the best wifi of any device I have owned.
    7) the lcd. sharp, bright. Only my HP laptop equals it, and it is way better than the lcd on the eee pcs, and amazingly better than the lcd on my Dell laptop.
    8) build quality. It just feels good.
    9) price. has to be the best value in a netbook on the market

    Things I don’t like much.
    1) the trackpad. I have a little program installed to enable gestures, but still, the eee pc 900 had a far superior trackpad. Do not like the buttons on the side. But then, I use a mouse 90% of the time.
    2) ??? not much else really.

I really like this machine and I use it an average of maybe 6 hours a day. I blog on it. I photo edit on it. I surf and twitter and do Facebook. iApprove!

When dual core Atoms, and maybe more powerful graphics chips become available in netbooks I might upgrade…but until then, the Aspire One is just right for me.

I took advantage of the RadioShack AAO with AT&T Broadband Connect for $99 and this has to be the best money I ever spent. The quality of the computer is great. This has the largest HD out of any of my notebooks and UMPCs. This is the first netbook I have bought, but it is a good replacement for my Fujitsu p1610 that had all the bells and whistles I really wasn’t using. The keyboard is great, feels good and the keys have a good response. I am running XP but have plans to load Vista next month. The 3G takes about a minute to load and connect after turning it on and opening the 3G manager, but it has a great signal once it is on. My only complaint is battery life. I would really hope that with the Atom processor I could squeeze more out of the 3cell battery this unit sold with. The 6cell battery is hard to find but maybe it should have sold with a 4cell battery like the Fujitsu u810/820 did. I tested and got a little under 2 hours running 3G and a little over 2 hours running wifi, but my sweet spot is normally 3 hours (the length of a graduate class or enough time to comfortably watch one movie). Although I am waiting on an external battery to deal with the battery life, I just wish I could have gotten a little more out of the standard battery while still USING the unit. In all, this is a GREAT device.

I bought an Acer Aspire One a couple of weeks ago from Best Buy.
Blue with 1 gig of ram and 120 gb hard drive with Windows XP.

Great machine what is even better the netbook has a 160 gb hard drive.

Seem most new AA1’s in the US are being shipped with 160 gb hd.

Definitely a netbook worth the money

I have been using my AA1 for about 3 weeks now (a Christmas present to myself) and I must say I am really glad a made this purchas. My fiance’ was so jelous I had to by her one (pink). I am a I.T. professional and I think this netbook is the best. With 160gb HDD, 1.5gb RAM(upgraded)1.3 megapixle web(not 0.3 as stated in the spec list on this website)3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 multicard reader, 1 SSD card reader, 802.11 a/b/g, and a $349.00 price tag I dont see how this is not easly the best on the market. I can run any program that I had loaded on my other laptops (Dell, IBM Thinkpad) without any problems. Think about laptops 2 years ago and the netbook will out perform them all even with the Atom processor. So if you are in the market for a netbook that can actually be used as a full time system then the Acer Aspire One is the one to have.

I’ve had a 160 GB/XP/6-cell white AspireOne now for about six weeks. It was $399 at Amazon (now it’s $379). It’s a great little machine and actually far more usable than I expected it to be. I got it for mobile data acquisition purposes and it is serving that purpose well. But it’s doing much more.

With the big battery it easily runs for five hours with a mix of surfing, writing (Open Office) and playing music (iTunes). The WiFi works well and it plays nice with the rest of my home network (part WinXP, part Mac OS). The battery life means I can use it anywhere in the house, and in most mobile situations, without even worrying about power - and that means it gets used more than I thought it would.

It’s a little cranky waking up from sleep sometimes, but that’s the only real operational “issue” I have. That, and one speaker seems to “rattle” a bit - but not enough for me to want to have it replaced.

Like another reviewer I don’t like the trackpad - especially the stiff, side-mounted buttons - but a small mouse (I like the little Microsoft wired notebook mouse) takes care of that. I find the keyboard perfectly usable and the display crisp and sharp. I wish it was more pixels vertically (it’s marginal with a couple of features of my data acquisition software) but for the portability I’ll deal with it.

All in all I’m quite pleased with it.

I really like the Acer Aspire One. I have the 160GB XP 6 cell model with 1GB RAM and it works great, after a little tweaking. At first WiFi is unusable if you’re running on batteries. To fix it though, you just have to go to the Device Manager, to the Atheros adapter then turn off power saving completely.

    Pros:
Screen is great, very clear, great resolution, very bright
    Keyboard is very usable
Powerful, browsing the web is great, even most older games work great. I love to play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on mine, works great!
Touchpad itself is great and very customizable. Right now I have the topright corner as a right click, and the right side as the mouse wheel and it works great.

    Cons:
Screen can’t go very low, even on lowest setting, still very bright.
Some keys on the keyboard are very small, like left shift and backspace.
Touchpad buttons are on the left and right.
Speakers are on bottom (literally the bottom, to get good sound it must be picked up)
    Webcam is low quality
All in all it I’d give it a 4/5, great netbook, probably the best on the market. Especially if you got it for $379 instead of $399 like I did. :D

I have only two problems with this computer. The French Canadian Keyboard is horrible with that anemic shift key.

The buttons for the track pad are also ..no right.. they are flat like the track pado surface, and I’m never sure what I’m pressing is the button or the trackpad. If they were raised with a detail, this would help.

I travel every few weeks for my job, and my 2hr flight is just long enough to watch a movie on the Acer (3 cell, get about 100 mins). Get to the hotel, start charging and check my email (wireless or cat5), maybe start a torrent for a movie later that night.

Wireless is very good with my unit. I might have traded one SD slot for another USB plug, or better yet, a composite video output.

    Webcam is OK, nothing great.

I have had my black Aspire One, 1 gig ram, 120 gig hdd, since October, ‘08. I am not a professional in any way but after well over a decade of buying, fixing, and building my own I am amazed with this product. It is far better than my desktop in so much my desktop is now enjoying semi-retirement. I would recommend it to anyone, and have to total strangers in stores when I see them looking at one.
I am happy to run XP, and am waiting patiently for Windows 7 to turn up, but I never liked Vista anyway. I have found the keyboard easy to use after a short while getting used to it. It feels good, looks nice, is a welcome part of my network. I now have a great device for previewing photos when I am out. Surfing while I am having coffee, and a very useful tool when I am rescuing friends/family computers.
Just be careful, they should possibly caring a warning….Acer Aspire One’s are such a joy to use they may be addictive. (Joke)

I have the Onyx black Aspire One (Linpus linux) 160gb HD with 1.5gb ram. Excellent netbook in my opinion

    Pros
Nice keyboard, it is easy to use despite its size.
Looks great, very sleek lightweight design.
Screen is a clear bright and a decent resolution.
Mousepad is nice, I personally like the layout.
    light, small and VERY portable.
Webcam is ok, lags a bit.
3 usb ports video output and expansion slots.

    Cons
Linpus linux is probably the worst linux distro ive ever used. I recommend installing Ubuntu linux or windows XP/7
No cd drive but thats expected, just buy a usb one.
fan temperature, by default it is all out of wack and needs a program to manage it properly (http://www.computentsystems.de/aceraspireonefancontrol/)
suckish graphics card but hey its a netbook.

overall I say it is an excellent netbook. if you are a student I highly recommend buying this.

I bought it as a second comp . I am a very heavy blogger and a net freak . I also have HUGE tons of music on my comp . Aspire One has now effectively replaced my laptop and I am rarely working on my first laptop . I use it with a Tweaked Ubuntu and it works like magik !! A few areas for improvement are the heating of the bottom and an uncanny fan noise while working

Do a search online and see what some owners had to do to get the wifi feature to work properly in this AA1 Netbook, which include changing the O/S, changing the chip etc. I bought 2 and neither would log onto more than one network properly. There seems to be lots of hardware problem with the CPU, which Intel designed for cell phone use. I did the smartest thing: I returned them both and got my money back. And here I am on at this website, looking for another netbook to buy.

I am using AA One with 1gb ram and 160 gb hdd. For me, its an excellent netbook with fast boot up and shutdown. I am currently running Windows 7 RC 7100 built and trust me its running faster than XP. Aero works perfectly on the builtin intel 945 chipset. Installed all applications like office 2003,mcafee, acrobat etc etc and I am amazed how this little thing runs these applications. I totally vote in favor of buying this netbook. Those who wanna buy netbooks, see some video comparisons on netbooks on youtube, and you’ll see what I am talking about. Good job ACER….

Try using KMP Player is the best video player for computers.

I’ve been using the Acer Aspire one for a few weeks now and really love it. I decided on the aspire one instead of the asus because of the price. It has all of the features you need and for a great price. I got mine for under $300 and that’s with an 8 hour battery! Very nice netbook.

I bought this Aspire One about two months age and I just love the thing. I read some reviews prior to buying it but they sounded too good to be true so I hesitated awhile. I’ve always had good luck with Acers as that was one of my first machines many years ago so I finally gave in and bought one. What a surprise. I’ve seen one or two bad reviews but mine fired up, found the network, and logged onto the internet 5 minutes out of the box. I haven’t had he first problem with it and as a matter of fact I bought another and gave the first one to my wife to replace her desktop. I hooked up an external monitor, mouse and keyboard, and got myself an external hard drive and replaced my desktop as well. Now I can go where ever and whenever I want and it does everything I want it to faster than I would have ever thought. GREAT job Acer.

I highly recommend spending the extra $50 to get the HP. I had my Acer for 53 days. That is when the hard drive crashed. While this may be a very rare problem for these netbooks, I was not willing (nor should I have been asked) to pay more than I already had to have the defective product shipped to Acer to be repaired. They would not budge on that. Customer service at it’s poorest. (On that note, Walmart took the computer back after having their electronics manager verify the issue and I was able to apply the complete purchase price to the price of my new HP. Just an example of superior customer service.) I actually went back to a 15.6″ laptop. While the portability of the netbook was nice, I didn’t want to go without the dvd/cd drive any more. Well, I’m off to trash Acer on other sites. Hope someone finds this useful.
