The Asus EEE PC 1000 is the upgrade of the EEE PC 901, and features a larger 10.2″ screen, and larger, easier to use keyboard. The 1000H, 1000HA, and 1000HD are similar devices with different storage capacities.

hey everyone,i am a proud owner of an asus 1000h.
features: well if your considering a eee pc 1000 you will most likely already know the specs. but IMO this netbook has EVERYTHING you need, and everything any netbook offers on the market today.
value: well im an aussie and down here it cost me 550 dollars but im not sure how much it is in the us or uk. for such a small price your kinda prepared for something that isnt gonna be able to do much, but shockingly it exceeds its critics with the ability to do just about anything except play games like cod4 etc.
usability: the 1000h has a very nice keyboard which i believe is a 95percent keyboard hope im correct there, which is great and easy to use. unlike my 701 eee where i get typos every second word.
design: the design is awesome, nice shiny finish, slim and just looks outstanding. and one of the best things is its cuteness LOL, where ever you go with it you get people constantly asking you, IS THAT A LAPTOP, WHERE DID YOU GET THAT AND HOW MUCH WAS IT.
conclusion: so overall id say that if you have to use a computer on the go or away from home or even if you want a low budget computer for a desktop this is definitely perfect for you.
ASUS REP (dont buy any other branded netbook):P
ASUS 1000H, xp, 160hd, 1gb ram. I love this big little machine! I don’t mind not having optical drive, I use the one in my desktop thru the wifi network. The screen is so bright that in the night I have to turn it to minimum. During the day, its matte finish avoids glare. The keyboard size is perfect for touch typists (and I’m almost 1,90 m tall). I just switched right shift and up arrow, though. It’s my first “laptop”, so I was not used to touchpads. I like it a lot (even when I kept touching without wanting to, in the first days). Dolby sound is very good - I’m planning to use it as a movie player for mi kids in my van -and with earphones, it’s just awesome. You can play older games (like warcraft iii, for example). If you turn off what you’re not using (it’s just a click or combination of keys) you DO have more than 6 hours battery. Design: it looks very good, not cheap. The top is a magnet for fingerprints. I didn’t like the back being thicker than the front, neither. Finally: all the IT people at work want one.
I’ve had an eee PC 1000, 1GB RAM, with 40GB SSD, since August. The SSDs are nominally 8GB + 32GB, but the total is really about 38GB. The SSDs are great to have, since they run cool and make no noise, but they do lack the speed of HDDs, especially when copying large amounts of data e.g. when installing applications.
I found the standard Linux far too limiting, so I put Windows XP on it for a while, installing from a SSD. It was OK, but not brilliant, since XP has so many background processes going on, even after I stopped non-essential services. With no swapfile (the best practice on SSD) I was occasionally running out of RAM. Some brave souls have tried putting Vista on there, which sounds like a Very Bad Thing.
For the last month I’ve had Ubuntu 8.10 on there, and it’s much happier. Out of the box the wired LAN was working, so I could download and install the array.org “eeepc-lean” kernel, and now everything works. Full instructions at array.org/ubuntu, and they also supply a eeepc-tray utility which controls the hardware from inside Linux, plus WiCD, a tray utility for managing wireless networks that just works. There’s much more free RAM, and very little going on in the background.
As for the netbook itself, the only complaints I have are the ease with which the shiny surface picks up fingerprints etc., and the the fact that it tends to tip over backwards. The keyboard is as good as you could want at this size, the screen is clear, though 1024×600 means you learn to use full screen mode a lot, especially in Firefox. This is the machine I take with me nearly everywhere I go, and it easily gets 5+ hours with Wi-Fi on. It seems very tough, and already has been dropped (by me), with no consequences. I definitely want a SSD in a future notebook if possible.
Well, it’s been some time since my first review. I have new information to share. I used it as a movie player in my van for my kids; I shrinked my Backyardigans dvds to 50%, and it was perfect for them. The dolby audio system IS powerful (remember I have a 1000H). I tried to use it outdoors; bad idea: the sunlight is too bright. Also, don’t use it on your lap for too long: your neck will ache. And guess what: I played Call of Duty 1 and 2 multiplayer in a private wifi network with my friends!!! They had to swallow their jokes about what they were calling “dwarf notebook”
I’ve had this netbook for about a month now…and I really like it. It’s portability is so great! When I bought it, I went for the largest netbook screen I could get. I was hoping 10.2″ was going to be enough for me. Well, I couldn’t be happier! This is a great little netbook.
Likes:
~SIZE! So small, and portable. It really does turn heads.
~Features: It packs a powerful punch in a small package.
~Speed: Very fast, even with the stock 1MB RAM.
~I love that I can change many settings with a touch of a button.
~Webcam!
Dislikes:
~The keys sometimes feel a little shallow, and my fingers catch on some. Not often, just once in awhile.
~I wish this netbook had a connection to hook to a TV to watch a movie on a big screen. (RCA)
~The 6 cell battery has some real staying power…but not the 7 hours they brag about. I usually run at high performance setting.
Overall….I love this netbook. Perfect for my needs, and for travel. All systems work very well. I bought this from ZipZoomFly.com, and it was about $409 shipped. (and I get an additional $40 MFG rebate)
Back again! Yeah, I’ve turned like a fan, haven’t I? Last month, I used my netbook for a sales seminar I gave, in a room for 14 people. You can imagine the faces of the other teachers with their 15″ heavyweight notebooks when I plugged my Asus to the projector! I even downloaded some videos to use as examples, and I could show them all to the class without any additional audio. Last february I’ve installed Vistamizer 3.1 (after loading SP3) and the RocketDock: my desktop has never been so clean and cool before. The look of Vista, but with the stability of XP. I bought a 16Gb USB, I use it as my external “DVD” drive, thanks to Alcohol 120%. Games I’ve played: CoD 1.0 and 1.4 (not 2, as I stated before, sorry), Dune 2000, Starcraft Broodwar, Warcraft 3, UT 2003, Max Payne 2 and Mafia (this last one I really recommend). One more thing: it turns out beeing thicker in the back is more ergonomic to type.

I actually like my Eee PC 1000 its nice! Maybe the keyboard could be much better than what is already there!
My friend has the Asus Eee PC 1005 and I have used played around with it a little. It is very fast and responsive in web-browsing and some of the page load times are faster than my dual core desktop. It is very optimized for web browsing but I wouldn’t put any heavy apps on it that’s not what it’s meant for. The keyboard is also by far the best I have used in a netbook. Overall A+
I have used the 1005ha extensively and it is definitely the best 10.1″ netbook. If you get one now I highly recommend the windows 7 version. At 92% fullsize the keyboard is useable and at 10.1″ the display resolution is 1024 wide which creates a good bit of side scrolling. You may want to go with an 11.6″ model if useability and web browsing are what you are after. If your main goal is portability then this is the way to go.
